The following is an update on a proposed solar project in Allegany County.
On July 28, 2025, Star Solar Allegany South LLC (“Star Solar” or the “Applicant”) filed an Application (“Application”) for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to construct a 4.95 megawatt (MW) alternating current (“MWac”) fixed tilt solar photovoltaic (“PV”) facility and associated interconnection facilities located in Allegany County, Maryland (the “Project”) pursuant to Md. Public Utilities Article (“PUA”) §§ 7-207 and 7-218.
The proposed Project is anticipated to occupy an approximately 22-acre portion of the overall 124-acre property located at 11515 Cash Valley Road, Cumberland, Maryland and described by Map 0014, Grid 0017, Parcel 0078 in Allegany County, Maryland (the “Property”). The Project is proposed as a community solar energy generating station.
On July 28, 2025, the Public Service Commission of Maryland (the “Commission”) docketed the Application as Case No. 9805 and delegated it to the Public Utility Law Judge Division.¹
