Maryland Senatorial Scholarship

Students in Maryland’s District 1 can apply for the Senatorial Scholarship to help pay for college or trade school. If you live in Allegany, Garrett, or Washington County, don’t miss this opportunity to get financial support for your education!

Attention Students!

If you live in District 1, you may be eligible for the Maryland Senatorial Scholarship—a great way to receive financial support for college or trade school.

Application

The application includes three parts:
  • Application Form
  • Recommendation Letter – From a non-relative
  • Essay – Tell us about your goals and how this scholarship would help you achieve them
  • Copy of most recent transcripts
All materials must be postmarked by Tuesday, April 1, 2026

Important Notes

  • You must complete your FAFSA before applying (it’s free at studentaid.gov)
  • Scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years (or longer if attending part-time)
  • Scholarships must be used at a Maryland school unless your major is not offered in-state (in that case, apply for a Unique Major waiver via the Maryland Higher Education Commission)
If you are awarded a Senatorial Scholarship, it will be automatically renewed for up to three additional years.

The maximum award timeframe is four years (8 semesters) for full-time students or up to 16 semesters for a part-time student.

Scholarships are intended for use at a Maryland college or trade school.

If you are going to study a major that is not offered at a Maryland school, you will need to apply for a Unique Major and complete the application through the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
