NFIB Maryland PAC endorses Senator Mike McKay

CUMBERLAND – October 14, 2026

The NFIB Maryland PAC has endorsed Senator Mike McKay for re-election to the Maryland State Senate on November 3rd. NFIB, the leading small-business association in the nation with thousands of members across Maryland, said in its endorsement that it believes McKay will be committed to “the needs of thousands of Main Street small businesses and their employees in Maryland.” McKay, a Republican who represents Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties, built and ran a small business in Western Maryland before he was elected, employing local workers.

“I ran a small business in Western Maryland before I ever ran for office,” McKay said. “I know what it is to make payroll, and I know what it is to open a letter from Annapolis with a new fee in it. The people who sign the front of the paycheck deserve somebody in the Senate who has done it.”

In Western Maryland, Main Street is the economy. The hardware store, the diner, the contractor with four trucks, and the family shop that has been open for three generations are where most people here work.

McKay sponsored Senate Bill 26 this session to let independent power providers serve new commercial and industrial customers without raising costs for households already on the grid. He also pushed budget amendments to roll back vehicle registration fee increases and to create a dedicated Roads and Bridges Account, so money collected for transportation is spent on roads and bridges.

“A small business out here does not have a lobbyist or a lawyer on retainer,” McKay said. “It has an owner who is already working sixty hours a week. Every fee and every mandate lands on that one person, and I am going to keep saying so in Annapolis.”
