CUMBERLAND – March 18, 2026

Senator Mike McKay secured nearly $1.37 million in state funding to replace the deteriorating sewer collection system in the Town of Luke—infrastructure that’s been failing residents for years.

“Luke is a small town, but the people who live there deserve a sewer system that works,” said Senator McKay. “This funding means homeowners won’t have to keep dealing with a system that’s falling apart. That’s what happens when your tax dollars come back home where they belong.”

The existing sewer collection system in Luke is aged, deteriorated, and no longer meets acceptable design standards. The project will replace and rehabilitate the system, giving residents reliable sewage collection for years to come. The total project cost is approximately $2 million, with additional funding from USDA and local sources.

“Western Marylanders send a lot of money to Annapolis. I fight to make sure Allegany County gets its fair share—not for bureaucracy, but for the basics that matter,” McKay added.

The Board of Public Works approved the funding on March 18, 2026.
