Maryland REALTORS endorse Senator Mike McKay

CUMBERLAND – October 2, 2026

Senator Mike McKay earned the endorsement of Maryland Realtors in his bid for re-election to the Maryland Senate.

Realtors sit across the kitchen table from families at the exact moment affordability stops being an abstraction. They are the ones who watch a young couple in Hagerstown or LaVale run the numbers, add up the taxes, the fees, the insurance, and the utility bill, and decide they cannot make it work.

“A realtor knows before anybody in Annapolis does when people can no longer afford to live here,” McKay said. “They watch it happen at the closing table. When they tell me the math has stopped working for working families, I believe them.”

McKay built and ran a small business in Western Maryland before he was elected to anything, employing local workers and dealing firsthand with the regulatory and cost pressures that fall on Maryland’s employers. Affordability, energy costs, and accountability have been the through line of his legislative priorities, and he has pushed against the steady accumulation of state fees that raise the cost of simply living in Maryland.

“Owning a home here used to be the achievable thing,” McKay said. “It was the reward for working hard in a place where the wages were never the highest. I am fighting to keep that within reach, because if we lose it we lose the reason people stay.”
