Maryland Farm Bureau PAC endorses Senator Mike McKay

CUMBERLAND – September 30, 2026

Senator Mike McKay earned the endorsement of the Maryland Farm Bureau Political Action Committee for the Maryland General Assembly.

The Farm Bureau’s endorsement process is a thorough one, built on reviews of voting records, candidate questionnaires, and input from county Farm Bureau organizations across the state. It is not a rubber stamp, and it carries weight with the people who work the ground in Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties.

“Farmers do not hand out endorsements for showing up at the fair once a year,” McKay said. “They look at the votes. I am grateful they looked at mine and decided I was worth backing.”

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of the Western Maryland economy. Beyond the food and the jobs, the region’s farms preserve open space, protect natural resources, and hold together the rural character that makes this part of the state what it is. Farm families here face the same pressures as everyone else, plus a regulatory load written largely by people who have never run a tractor.

“Every time Annapolis writes a rule for a farm, it gets written by somebody who has never had to make a hay season work,” McKay said. “I keep raising my hand and telling them what it actually costs the family on the other end of it.”

McKay has committed to continue working alongside the region’s farmers on policies that strengthen agricultural viability, encourage innovation, and make it possible for the next generation to keep the operation going.
