Laws Going into Effect October 1

This Friday, October 1, 2021, there are a huge amount of bills that were passed in the Legislature that will become law. While there are a few that are routine, there are many that should raise concerns for all Marylanders across the state. Two of the most concerning laws that stick out the most are the following:

HB 449: Removes the terms “Husband” and “Wife” from marriage licenses and replaces them with “Party 1” and “Party 2”. This is without a doubt another attack on traditional marriage and our families. The redefining of what a marriage is, is fundamentally wrong.

SB 525: This law allows those incarcerated in Baltimore the opportunity to vote in our elections. HB 222 thus requires that voting ballot drop-boxes must be set up in the prisons. This is a power grab and it give concessions to those who have violated the law.
