Funding for District 1

On July 7, 2021, the Board of Public Works will be reviewing requests for funding for projects across District 1. Below are all of the projects looking for funds:

District 1A:

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $80,310.00 in funding from the Community Parks and Playground Program to upgrade the playground equipment and safety surfacing at Little League Park, Furnace Park, and Library Park in the Town of Lonaconing (Item 1A.2 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);

District 1B

A request from the Maryland State Library Agency to approve a $1,960,000 grant under its County Library Capital Project Grant Program to renovate and double the size of the LaVale Library, originally built in 1975.  The project will reconfigure the lobby, create ADA compliant restrooms, increase the number of service points, double meeting room capacity from 45 to 90, increase the staff workroom from 1,000 to 4,000 NSF, and replace and upgrade all mechanical systems.   Prior funds were granted for design and to start construction (Item 12 of the Secretary’s Agenda);

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $185,000 in funding from the Community Parks and Playground Program for new playground equipment and safety surfaces on Church Street in the Town of Midland to meet the National Safety Standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act (Item 1A.1 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);

A request to enter into a grant agreement for a $45,000 grant to the Board of Directors of Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Development Corporation for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, repair, renovation, reconstruction, site improvement, and capital equipping of a railroad tamping machine.  There is no matching fund requirement for this grant (Item 6 of the Department of General Services’ Office of State Procurement Agenda);

District 1C:

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $98,000 in funding from the Community Parks and Playground Program to construct two sand volleyball courts at Allegany College of Maryland(Item 1A.3 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda); and

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $202,000 in funding from the Community Parks and Playground Program to purchase and install a new interactive playground at Byron Memorial Park (Item 10A of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda).
