Tomorrow, the Maryland Board of Public Works will be considering funding for various projects across District 1. They are as follows:
District 1A:
· A request from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for new funding up to $1,256,607, including $1,211,602 from the Bay Restoration Fund to the City of Frostburg for the Beall Street Corridor project. This is the next phase in a multi-phase project to separate sewers within the City and reduce the frequency and volume of combined sewer overflows which occur during wet weather events (Item 14 of the Secretary’s Agenda);
· A request from MDE for new funding up to $776,526 from the Bay Restoration Funding to the Town of Grantsville for its Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Enhanced Nutrient Removal Upgrade project. This project entails the design and construction of upgrades to the Grantsville WWTP (this Item is specific to the planning and design portions). The current Plant cannot meet its permit limits and has had several occurrences of Significant Non-Compliance, leading the Town to enter into a Consent Order with MDE. This project, which will reduce nutrients discharged to the Youghiogheny River, will serve the Town of Grantsville as well as surrounding areas of Garrett County (Item 15 of the Secretary’s Agenda);
· A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit a total of $108,438.00 from Program Open Space funding allocated to Garrett County for the following projects:
o McHenry Lions Park: $62,631.00 to expand the existing pavilion and construct a new bicycle pump track (Item 4.1 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property);
o Broadford Park: $23,127.30 to upgrade Pavilion #1’s deteriorating roof and install lighting for one of the baseball fields (Item 4.2 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property);
o Mountain Fresh Pavilion: $22,680 to install garage doors around the perimeter to allow the facility to be enclosed and utilized during inclement weather (Item 4.3 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property);
· A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $47,650.70 from the Local Parks and Playgrounds Infrastructure funding allocated to Garrett County for the following projects:
o Avilton Community Center: $39,700 to upgrade the roof, construct new sidewalks, and purchase and install additional site amenities (Item 4.4 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property);
o Kitzmiller Botanical Garden Park: $3,951.00 to restore the botanical garden pond, make landscaping improvements, and install new picnic tables and benches (Item 4.5 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property);
o Deer Park Community Center: $4,000.00 to pave the playground area’s existing gravel parking lot (Item 4.6 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property);
District 1B: A request to enter into a grant agreement for a $75,000 grant to the Board of Directors of Robotics and Engineering of Allegany County for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, repair, renovation, reconstruction, site improvement, and capital equipping of the Youth Robotics and Engineering Center. There is no matching fund requirement for this grant (Item 17 of the Department of General Services’ Office of State Procurement Agenda); and
District 1C: A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $90,000 in Program Open Space funding allocated to Washington County to acquire .18 acres of property (Yeakle Property) as an addition to Clear Spring Park (Item 5A.2 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda).
