CUMBERLAND – September 4, 2026

Senator Mike McKay earned the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 144, representing the men and women of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, in his bid for re-election to the Maryland Senate.

In a letter addressed to the citizens of Allegany County, Lodge 144 President Christopher D. Hill wrote that the Lodge’s members are “honored to support Senator McKay in his re-election bid for the Maryland Senate.”

The endorsement comes from the deputies who patrol Allegany County — the people who answer the domestic call at 2 a.m., work the crash on Route 220, and sit with a family on the worst night of their lives. In a county this size, they are neighbors before they are officers.

“The deputies at the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office run toward the call when everybody else is running the other way,” McKay said. “When the men and women who do that job say they want me back in Annapolis, that means more to me than any headline I’ll ever get.”

McKay serves as Chairman of the Fire and EMS Coalition, working alongside first responders across Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties.

“Public safety out here isn’t a talking point — it’s whether a deputy has the backup and the equipment to make it home at the end of his shift,” McKay said. “I don’t need a poll to tell me that matters in Western Maryland. I need Annapolis to quit treating it like an afterthought.”

Lodge 144 is headquartered at 695 Kelly Road in Cumberland.
