This is just the beginning— as these services are utilized, the need will be demonstrated and justified for the future.
Public Safety Partners,
We are excited to share an important new initiative between the Maryland State Highway Administration’s Office of Transportation Mobility & Operations and District 6 – Office of Maintenance.
Beginning Thursday, July 3, 2025, SHA will launch a seasonal, weekend and holiday Emergency Traffic Patrol program in Western Maryland.
Program Details:
This program will mirror the successful Eastern Shore Traffic Operations Program, utilizing two trained emergency response vehicles staffed by District 6 personnel.
Requesting Assistance:
Partner agencies should continue to request SHA resources through their usual channels (their communications center or the District 7 Traffic Operations Center). Please do not initiate direct calls or texts to on-duty staff via cellular devices.
Responder Training Available:
In conjunction with this rollout, SHA is offering in-person, 4-hour Traffic Incident Management Responder Training. For more information about the Federal Highway Administration’s TIM program, please visit:

If you have questions about this exciting new program or would like to schedule training, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our roadways safe.
Have a great weekend,
Kevin
