Board of Public Works Funding

This Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the Board of Public Works is considering funding for various projects in District 1. Specifically some of it is to award a contract for the Winebrenner Stream Sealing Project. This is to seal mine voids under the Winebrenner Run to prevent the stream from losing water to underlying abandoned deep mines.

The other funding is specific for District 1A:

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to grant $215,000 of Program Open Space statewide funds for the acquisition in fee simple of 4 +/-acres (Minoque property) in Garrett County.  This property is located across the road from the Savage River in the heart of one of Maryland’s top trout fishing destinations and will be managed by the Maryland Park Service as an addition to Big Run State Park.  The property includes a commercial structure that can be used as a Park Office and/or Ranger Station.  Acquisition will support water-related recreational activities (Item 7A of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda).

A request to enter into grant agreements for grants totaling $27,200 to the Board of Directors of the believe in Tomorrow National Children’s Foundation, Inc. for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, repair, renovation, reconstruction, site improvement, and capital equipping of the Believe in Tomorrow Children’s House at Deep Creek Lake respite housing facility, including landscaping and improvements to the facility’s grounds.  There is no matching fund requirement for this grant (Item 7 of the Department of General Services’ Office of State Procurement Agenda).

I will update you when approval is given by the Board of Public Works.
