On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Board of Public Works will be considering several items that impact your Districts 1A, 1B, and 1C.

Dear Senator McKay, Delegate Hinebaugh, Delegate Buckel, and Delegate Baker:

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Board of Public Works will be considering several items that impact your Districts 1A, 1B, and 1C. Specifically:

District 1A: A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit a total of $118,314 from Program Open Space funding allocated to Allegany County for the following projects:

  • Maryland Avenue Ballfield:
    • $45,000 to improve the basketball courts (Item 1A.2 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
    • $54,000 for new playground equipment (Item 1A.3 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
  • Luke Legacy Park: $9,000 to purchase and install rubber mulch for the park’s playground (Item 1A.4 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
  • Iron Furnace Park: $10,314 to purchase and install benches and picnic tables (Item 1A.7 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);

District 1B:

  • A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit$37,413 from the Program Open Space funding allocated to Allegany County to replace deteriorating wood decking at the Frostburg Depot Station (Item 1A.1 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
  • A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit$75,000 in funding from the Community Parks and Playground Program to install two new light poles with high efficiency bulbs for the soccer field at Baker Park (Item 1A.8 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
  • A request to enter into a grant agreement for a $1,500,000 grant to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Development, Corp for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, repair, renovation, reconstruction, site improvement, and capital equipping of infrastructure improvements, including to the North Branch Potomac River Railroad Bridge. There is no matching fund requirement for this grant. The General Assembly previously approved this funding as part of the 2024 Capital Budget (Item 18 of the Department of General Services’ Office of State Procurement Agenda); 

District 1C: A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit a total of $23,742 from Program Open Space funding allocated to Allegany County for the following projects:

  • Oldtown Ballfields: $7,740.00 to refurbish the walking track around the ballfields (Item 1A.5 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda); and
  • Flintstone Community Park: $16,002 to replace the existing backstop fencing and add new dugout and base line fencing (Item 1A.6 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda).
