Board Of Public Works Approves Grants in District 1

Across District 1, the Board of Public works approved funding across all three counties from District 1A to District 1C. The following will be funded:

District 1A:

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $13,343 from the Local Parks and Playgrounds Infrastructure funding for new playground equipment at Bel Air Community Park.

A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit $180,000 from the Program Open Space funding allocated to Garrett County for a roof extension, concrete pad and garage doors to protect against inclement weather at Grantsville Town Park’s Pavilion 3.

A request to provide a $151,052.26 grant to Garrett County from Rural Legacy Funds for the acquisition of a 48.75-acre conservation easement in the Bear Creek Rural Legacy Area (Margroff property).  Acquisition of this conservation easement will protect productive agricultural and forest lands and 1,650 linear feet of grassed and forested stream buffer along an unnamed tributary to the South Branch of Bear Creek.  The easement will be held by the County.  Easement value: $2,438.98/acre.

District 1B:

Mountain Ridge High School: $45,000 to install a stormwater drain system and regrade the lower practice field.

Allegany High School: $190,000 to construct concrete stairs for direct access to the athletic fields.

District 1C:

A request from the Maryland Department of the Environment for new grant funding up to $739,107 to the Town of Williamsport for its Sewer Line and Manhole Rehabilitation project.  This project entails the removal, replacement, and reconnection of existing sanitary sewer lines and manholes.  The project will reduce sewer inflow and infiltration for Williamsport.
