Dear Senator McKay and Delegate Hinebaugh:
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Board of Public Works will be considering several items that impact your District 1A. Specifically:
- A request from the Department of Emergency Management to authorize a$729,550 loan from the Volunteer Company Assistance Fund to the Friendsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Inc. to replace the engine pumper (Item 8.3 of the Secretary’s Agenda);
- A request from the Department of Natural Resources to commit a total of$120,500 from Program Open Space funding allocated to Garrett County for the following projects:
- McHenry Community Park: $70,000 to construct an accessible pavilion for public use and events (Item 3A.1 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
- Broadford Park: $35,000 to construct concrete pads under existing pavilions and add new security systems (Item 3A.2 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda);
- Glades Park: $15,500 to purchase and install pickleball standards and nets and additional security systems (Item 3A.3 of the Department of Natural Resources’ Real Property Agenda); and
- A request to enter into grant agreements for grants totaling $1,000,000 to the Board of County Commissioners for Garrett County for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, repair, renovation, reconstruction, site improvement, and capital equipping of the Bittinger Volunteer Fire Department. There is no matching fund requirement for this grant. The General Assembly previously approved this funding as part of the 2022 Capital Budget (Item 3 of the Department of General Services’ Office of State Procurement Agenda).
