Friends and neighbors of Appalachian Maryland,

This week, the 2026 Maryland General Assembly Budget books were delivered to our offices—and it’s time to get to work.

Diving into these pages is more than a routine exercise. It’s about making sure District One is seen, heard, and fairly treated. As I review the proposed budget, my focus is firmly on the three counties I represent: Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties.

This deep dive helps us identify where the State is investing in District One—and just as importantly, where it isn’t. Every line item matters when it comes to schools, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, and essential services that Appalachian Maryland depends on.

This process also allows our District One Delegation to develop a clear, coordinated plan to protect existing funding and fight for increased investment in our region. Appalachian Maryland deserves a fair return on the tax dollars our families and businesses send to Annapolis.

I will continue to scrutinize this budget with one goal in mind: standing up for Allegany, Garrett, and Washington Counties, and ensuring that the needs of Western and Appalachian Maryland are not overlooked in the 2026 budget.
