Yesterday was the first day of the 2022 Session. The Republican Legislative Caucus passed a mission statement that stated the following:

“The members of the House Republican Caucus represent millions of Marylanders across this state. We have an obligation to the people we are elected to represent, and to all Marylanders, to advocate for policies that will allow them the opportunity to lead free and productive lives in pursuit of the American Dream.”

There are three factors key to achieving this goal:

  1. Ensuring our communities are safe see supported by law enforcement.
  2. Providing a quality education system that puts our children first and is held accountable if it fails to do so.
  3. Promoting a robust economy free of high taxes and onerous regulation

“We have and will continue to advocate for these and other important policies aligned with constitutional principles to make Maryland a wonderful place to live, learn, work, and retire.”

This year, as a Caucus, we are putting forth various pieces of legislation to try and achieve these goals. A few of these are:

  1. No Bail for Violent Criminals Act of 2022
  2. Ending Discrimination in Public Education Act of 2022
  3. Absentee Voter Privacy Act of 2022
  4. Retiree Tax Relief Act of 2022

We are pushing for initiatives that recall elected school boards, have an accountability board to ensure geographic representation, make Maryland a Right to Work State, and a Right to Play Act, which would allow homeschooled students to participate in interscholastic sports and activities.

I will keep you all updated as things develop in Annapolis.
